EXPLORE TERRYGLASS

Tír Dhá Glas

Terryglass

The Irish name for Terryglass is Tír Dhá Glas and means ‘land of the two streams’. The village is located on the R493 regional road on the north-eastern shore of Lough Derg near where the River Shannon enters the Lough.

It is a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower. Terryglass won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1983 and 1997, followed by Tipperary’s Tidiest Village in 2019. More recently, the village won the Pride of Place Award in 2020 – this award recognises improvements made by local communities to create civic pride in their area. This competition focuses on people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their area.

There is a fabulous atmospheric pub right across the road from the River Run (Paddy’s Bar) – offering delicious food and everything from creamy pints of Guinness to the latest Gin infusions.

It is only a five minute stroll to Terryglass Quay where you will find communal BBQ areas and a children’s playground as well as local and visiting boats. The village of Portumna in a ten minute drive away and the village of Borrisokane is also ten minutes away.
