Terryglass
The Irish name for Terryglass is Tír Dhá Glas and means ‘land of the two streams’.
The village is located on the R493 regional road on the north-eastern shore of Lough Derg near where the River Shannon enters the Lough. It is a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower. Terryglass won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1983 and 1997, followed by Tipperary’s Tidiest Village in 2019. More recently, the village won the Pride of Place Award in 2020 – this award recognises improvements made by local communities to create civic pride in their area.

Paddy’s Bar dates back to 1826 and is the true home of a traditional Irish welcome with great food and drinks. The menu offers dishes with locally sourced ingredients and a fabulous cocktail selection, along with the creamiest pint of Guinness that Arthur Guinness would be proud of. The Derg Inn is a family run establishment serving a great range of food options from traditional to Asian. Both have been recipients of various gastronomy accolades over the years, firmly establishing them as firm favourites in the locality and wider afield. Reservations, while not necessary, are recommended particularly during the high season and weekends. Dine in and takeaway options are available.

De Róiste’s Bar & Restaurant is located in Ballinderry, a short 4km drive from Terryglass. This recent addition to the area has proven to be very popular with meat-lovers. Their unique smokehouse technique is achieved by using indirect heat and smoke, using Irish Oak that has been dried for up to a year. Smoking time can range from 2 – 18 hours.
