Originally from Dublin, I visited this wonderful area for many years before choosing to make it my home. I was enchanted by Terryglass and its magical surroundings, and I know you will be too.

My dream for River Run was to create a space that felt homely and cosy, but also felt like stepping into a luxurious getaway. I loved its perfectly central location whilst still feeling far away from it all. In 2024 I also invested in a local restaurant, The Derg Inn, to solidify my purpose here.

Nestled in the village of Terryglass – a short stroll from the banks of Lough Derg, where the River Shannon meets the mountains of Tipperary – you will find River Run House & Cottages, luxury self-catering accommodation with a homely feel.

A distinctive country house and three pretty cottages in one and a half acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, right in the centre of the village. The location couldn’t be better! If relaxation is on your mind or if water sports float your boat – you will find it right here.

Terryglass

The Irish name for Terryglass is Tír Dhá Glas and means ‘land of the two streams’.

The village is located on the R493 regional road on the north-eastern shore of Lough Derg near where the River Shannon enters the Lough. It is a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower. Terryglass won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1983 and 1997, followed by Tipperary’s Tidiest Village in 2019. More recently, the village won the Pride of Place Award in 2020 – this award recognises improvements made by local communities to create civic pride in their area.

 Verified Excellent accommodation in Terryglass Had a wonderful one night stay here. The cottages are a very short walk from the restaraunt and pub. The cottage we stayed in was very well equipped and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. We were sorry not to have a longer stay and look forward to returning in the near future. We would strongly recommend River Run for a charming and relaxing stay in beautiful Terryglass

 Verified Exceptional for family occasion Our party of 15 stayed for an 80th birthday celebration and we didn't want to leave. The house and adjoining apartments exceed our expectations. We had everything we could possibly need and more. The accommodation is furnished with top quality furniture and decorated very tastefully. The fireplaces were lit and created a very cosy environment. The rooms were very spacious. We loved it so much that we ate in the house on both nights ..it was too nice to leave. Eimear is an exceptional host, very friendly and accommodating. We look forward to our return visit for sure.

 Verified Marvellous stay Wonderful cottages.....there were a large crowd of us so we booked them all and were able to wander to catch up with people. Kitchens are stocked amazingly especially in main house.....every facility known available. Love all the different rooms and outdoor space....can just chill for a few hours if desired.  Verified Perefection! This place is just fabulous, the attendtion to detail, unbelievable customer service and cleanliness - absolutely perfect! We are a large group of 25+ three generations of three families and River Run works perfectly for everyone. We have privacy if needed and lots of outdoor and common space to hang out together.  Verified Family visit A fantastic experience. We booked for 22 people and Eimear helped greatly with all the organisation. Terryglass is situated on the northern banks of Lough Derg – the lake is nestled between counties Clare, Tipperary and Galway with 179km of idyllic shoreline.

Go wild on lush walking and cycling trails, make a splash with canoeing, waterskiing, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding, or simply let time stand still as you sail, cruise or fish.

Unfolding over 40km from its northern reaches in Portumna to its southern sweep in Killaloe/Ballina, the lively towns and villages that dot the shoreline boast their own unique charm, extend the warmest welcomes and delight with fantastic local food.
Terryglass Quay offers mooring for overnight boating with access to electricity and water points. Local amenities include toilets, showers, BBQ areas and a small playground.

One of the best things about Terryglass village is that you don’t need to go anywhere else. Lay back and enjoy the luxurious surroundings of River Run House and gardens. Grab some supplies at The Derg Shop and make the most of the well equipped kitchens or have a barbeque on a hot day.

Alternatively you can book into one of 2 great local restaurants. Foodies can enjoy the sumptuous surroundings and the very best of locally sourced food in the newly refurbished Derg Inn restaurant, or pop into Paddys for a creamy pint of Guinness in an old style restaurant that has been serving people since 1826.

If you’re feeling adventurous you can take the family to the lakeshore where you can avail of the public barbecues and picnic facilities.
